The Alchemy Handbell
Ensemble is a sextet of skilled handbell players from Prince of Peace
Episcopal Church in Woodland Hills California. Named for the Medieval
concept of wresting gold from base metal, Alchemy refines the music of
handbells, ringing gold from bronze. Because each player is generally
responsible for an independent musical voice, much of the repertoire is
contrapuntal. The ringers play in groups of three to six, as required by
the music.
This
program was recorded live at the World Festival of Scared Music - the
Americas, in October 1999.
